3. The long wait

Ok, so its the dead of winter and I’m living (renting) in a small 3 bedroom home, with no dishwasher, no storage or benches in the bathroom, a backyard that has no trees or plants to cheer me up and one living area, therefore 1 TV between 3 of us, one being a 4 year old.  Not an ideal situation.

In hindsight, 12 months is a lot longer than I first expected.  I should’ve found us a house with 2 living areas!  Especially now that Offspring is back!

Do you know what a week feels like in a depressing rental home?  Well it feels like a month!  So when you have a month delay of progress on your build, do you know how long that feels like??  Feels like forever!  Feels like the business has gone bust and run for the hills is what it feels like.

I work in a field of business where customer service is paramount.  If i cant supply you a box of tea or tin of coffee due to delays, I will be on the phone to ask you if I can offer you an alternative, or at least say “I’m sorry, we’re having a delay from our supplier with this product, you will receive it next Monday, is that ok?”

I don’t seem to be receiving the customer service that I expect when I’m outlaying almost $300k !  I want progress reports.  I want to know the ETA of a new site manager’s appointment to the business.  I want to hear you to say the word “compensate”, for delays.  At the moment I’m not hearing anything.  When you don’t hear anything you start Googling the worst possible things like “how to break a building contract”.  I don’t want to do that and you shouldn’t want me Googling that!

Customer Service people!!  Don’t forget it.  And if you don’t know what it means… learn it!

A bit of back history, our site start was end of June.  We saw the fence go up and the dunny (porta potty) delivered and we were excited to see 3 concrete trucks arrive early July to pour piers into our land…….. and then nothing since.  Yes its been wet, one of the wettest winters Victoria has seen for many years.  Glad to see it.  Our farmers need it. I hope they are receiving as much rain as we are in the suburbs.  But I’ve watched 2 homes (both by Obit Homes) on my drive home from work everyday.  They both started their slab at the same time as us, and now they have frame up and roofing on.  And these homes are receiving the same amount of rain as my site.

Hope I can report some happy news very soon.
